Blending discreetly into the hillside of Mughwango Hill, Elsa’s Kopje is an oasis of luxury and elegance affording guests a definitive safari experience. The camp takes its name from Elsa, the lioness made famous by George and Joy Adamson in the film “Born Free”. The camp offers guests the freedom to explore and discover the vast open plains dotted with doum palms and baobab trees and lush vegetation along 13 rivers that bisect the surrounding Park. Regular sightings include elephant, zebra, giraffe, leopard, lion, cheetah, rhino and the rare, elusive greater kudu.

Location:
Situated within Meru National Park, in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District.

Accommodation and facilities:
Accommodation comprises nine stone and thatch guest cottages crafted around the natural features of the hill. Each cottage has a private bathroom with showers or baths made of stone, flush toilets and double basins. The camp is interconnected by paved pathways lit by lamps at night. There is an open bar, lounge and a dining room. The view from the swimming pool overlooks the plains and is the perfect place for sundowners. Each cottage is attended by a butler who also waits on the guests at mealtimes. The food is traditional Northern Italian cuisine blended with a selection of local and international dishes, fresh baked bread, crisp salads and locally grown vegetables.

Activities:
Day and night game drives are available and it is possible to take a guided walk around the park. Excursions to Kora National Park and rafting and fishing on the Tana River are also available.

Special attractions:
A stay here is not complete without experiencing a bush breakfast, followed by a visit to the Tharaka tribal village on the southern boundary of the Park.
